Abbas calls on Israel to end occupation

Interim Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas pledged in his first official campaign speech today to fulfill Palestinian dreams of statehood.

Abbas – the front-runner in the January 9 presidential election – called on Israel to end its occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem. He said he had chosen the path of peace and negotiations.
