A siege at a televangelist’s “Crystal Cathedral” in Southern California ended today when a gunman committed suicide.

No one was hurt when the man, a disgruntled church employee initially opened fire yesterday, and children in a day-care centre were rushed to safety.

The man remained inside the complex for several hours, and shot himself as officers tried to talk to him as he was holed up in a bathroom.

“There was a dialogue, and then the officers heard the gunshot,” said Garden Grove police Lieutenant Paul Prince.

Officers immediately forced down a steel door separating them from the man, and found him dead, Prince said.
