Blunkett future hits further doubts
Six senior British cabinet ministers have voiced doubts about UK Home Secretary David Blunkett's future, according to a London newspaper.
The Home Secretary is in “serious trouble”, three senior ministers told the Evening Standard. “I don’t know what will happen is the honest answer,” one said.
“It has gone on a lot longer than I expected, I admit that.”
Mr Blunkett’s attack on Cabinet colleagues had weakened support, the minister said. “There was a hell of a lot of anger. People were saying ‘What the hell has he done this for?"
Another Cabinet member, said to be close to Mr Blair, told the paper: “He is in very different territory now. “If there is the slightest hint of impropriety, I think he will have to go. The mood has become less forgiving – unless he is fully cleared.
“A lot of people feel that this is holding us back. We look very jaded and a bit shabby, it’s like the Tories under John Major.”
