Firefight breaks out on Baghdad's Haifa street

US troops fought a running gunbattle today with insurgents along Baghdad’s busy Haifa Street, sending passers-by scurrying for cover and forcing stores to close down, witnesses said.

The fighting broke out after armed rebels appeared on the street, saying they were hunting for Iraqis collaborating with the occupation forces. Witnesses said they killed a man they said was working for the Americans.
