Candidates to replace Arafat named

Ten candidates have qualified to run in next months elections to replace Yasser Arafat as head of Palestinian Authority, officials said today.

The qualified candidates include Mahmoud Abbas, the interim Palestinian leader who is considered the front-runner, jailed uprising leader Marwan Barghouti and democracy advocate Mustafa Barghouti.
