Six die in Indonesian airliner crash

An airliner skidded off the runway as it landed in an Indonesian tourist town today, killing at least six people and injuring 24.

The Lion Air MD-82, with more than 150 people on board, had just touched down in Solo after a 310 miles flight from the capital Jakarta.

It skidded off the runway and broke in two on the tarmac, said local radio.

Reports said it was raining and foggy at the time.

A spokesman for Lion Air, Indonesia’s top budget carrier, confirmed the crash but could not provide any additional details.
