Many dead in Iraq car bomb attack

A car bomb exploded today at a police checkpoint in western Iraq, killing and injuring several members of the security forces, police said.

The attack took place in the town of Baghdadi, 120 miles north-west of the capital.

“Many policeman and National Guardsmen were killed, but we didn’t have a figure yet,” police Lieutenant Mohammed al-Fehdawi said. Al-Jazeera television put the casualty toll at six dead and nine injured.

Other reports said up to 12 were killed
