Annan pushes for African peace
UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan is today meeting with 11 African leaders in Tanzania to push for lasting peace in central Africa, where the past decade has seen millions die in wars, rebellions and a genocide.
African Union spokesman Assane Ba said during the two-day summit, the African leaders are expected to sign a commitment to restore peace and security, strengthen economic ties and address the humanitarian crisis caused by years of conflict.
