Earthquake rocks Indonesia, killing 16
A strong earthquake has rocked parts of eastern Indonesia, killing 16 people, injuring more than 100 and damaging hundreds of buildings.
The magnitude-6 quake struck at 5:26am (10.26pm Thursday) and was centred 20 miles off the eastern coast of Alor island, about 1,000 miles east of the capital Jakarta, said seismologist Rahmat Triono in Jakarta.
