Italian foreign Minister to replace Buttiglione

Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi tonight confirmed his foreign minister Franco Frattini to replace Rocco Buttiglione in the European Commission.

The breakthrough in the row over the shape of the incoming 25-strong team came at the start of an EU summit in Brussels.
