49 hurt in Barcelona subway crash
Two subway trains collided in Barcelona today, leaving one of the drivers in a serious condition and 48 other people with minor injuries, officials said.
A train carrying around 100 people swerved onto a track leading to a garage area and rammed into the back of an empty train that was stopped.
Rescue crews took five hours to rescue the driver of the train with passengers after he became trapped in the wreckage.
The cause of the accident was not immediately known but Mayor Joan Clos said it appeared to be a technical error.
