Small quakes rattle Azores

Ten small earthquakes shook the mid-Atlantic island of Sao Miguel in the Azores today, rattling houses but causing no serious damage, officials said.

The quakes measured four on the Mercalli scale of seismic intensity, authorities said. Firefighters were on alert, civil protection director Antonio Costa said.
