Eight American Marines were killed in fighting west of Baghdad today, and a car bomb killed at least seven people in an attack on an Arab television station in the capital.

In a separate incident at Haswa, 25 miles south of the capital, Iraqi troops opened fire on civilian vehicles, killing at least 14 people, after a US convoy came under attack.
