Portuguese fishing boat missing in storm with six crew

Rescue services launched a search early today for a fishing boat with six men on board that went missing in stormy weather off northern Portugal, officials said.

The boat was close to the port of Aveiro, about 155 miles north of Lisbon, when it disappeared during the night, said Aveiro harbourmaster Feliciano Moreira said.

“The alarm was raised by other boats in the area which lost contact with the boat,” Moreira said.

A lifeboat and an airforce plane were looking for the boat, he said, and a navy vessel was expected to join the search.
