Bulgaria, Greece discuss economic co-operation

Greek President Constantinos Stephanopoulos is scheduled to arrive Sofia today on a three-day official visit aimed at boosting bilateral relations and economic co-operation.

Stephanopoulos’ talks with Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov were expected to focus mainly on economy and trade, but also on the two countries’ common efforts for countering new global security threats, Parvanov’s office said.

Bulgaria and Greece are involved in a number of joint infrastructure projects, including the construction of a pipeline from Bulgaria’s Black sea port of Burgas to Greece’s Mediterranean port of Alexandroupolis.

Bulgaria also hopes to secure Greece’s support for its push to join the European Union in 2007.

Tomorrow, Stephanopoulos is scheduled to meet Bulgarian Prime Minister Simeon Saxcoburggotski and to open a joint business forum.
