Pitcairn mayor 'treated girls like his harem'
A woman testifying in the sex abuse trial of the mayor of Pitcairn Island said he treated girls on the remote British territory like his “harem” and accused him of twice raping her.
Steve Christian, 53, the mayor and most prominent member of Pitcairn’s permanent population of 47 people, has pleaded not guilty to six charges of rape and four of indecent assault on four women from 1964-1975.
