Fire forces crew to abandon oil platform

The crew of an oil platform support vessel were abandoning ship today after a fire in the engine room, coastguards said.

The Viking Victor caught fire 20 miles north-east of Aberdeen this afternoon.

A rescue helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth was at the scene and was preparing to winch the 12 crew members to safety.
