Terror suspect escapes from court

A terror suspect escaped from a Bahrain court today after a judge ordered him to to held in custody.

Yasir Kamal shouted ā€œLeave me! Don’t touch me!ā€ as police tried to restrain him as he made for the door after hearing that his detention had been extended.

Kamal wriggled free and sprinted out of the High Court as relatives protested at the judge’s decision.

Kamal is one of six suspects who have been in and out of jail since June on suspicion of being involved in plots to attack targets in Bahrain and contact with foreign terrorist organisations. None has been charged.

The authorities released two suspects on Saturday, a day before the detention orders expired. On Sunday, prosecutors asked the High Court to renew the orders on the remaining four suspects for another 45 days.
