EU foreign ministers have given their solidarity to Russian President Vladimir Putin in his efforts to resolve the school hostage crisis in southern Russia.
“All of us express our profound solidarity,” said British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw. “All our discussions will be overshadowed by the appalling situation.”
Mr Straw, echoing the feelings of many EU foreign ministers, said the fight against terrorism “is the fight for all of us … it’s the one we have to win”.
German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer said: “I can’t find any justification for taking hostage children, toddlers and babies.”
