Kenyans charged following British farmer's murder

Two Kenyans were charged today with violent robbery and possession of stolen property in connection with the murder of a British farmer.

George Njuguna Wambui and Stephen Mburu Ndirangu were accused of being part of a gang that raided the farm near Naivasha, 55 miles north-west of Nairobi, prosecutor Francis Kihara said.

Farmer Martin Palmer was killed in the raid and the two men were in possession of his pistol, Kihara said.

The accused made no statements in court. Magistrate Jennifer Thuita ordered they be held until the next hearing, on September 16.

The two men were arrested after the hijacking of a cargo truck near Naivasha. Police were still searching for others in the gang, which they said had hijacked several cars and trucks along roads near Naivasha in recent weeks.

Mr Palmer was the son of the former chief executive of South Hams District Council, in Devon.
