Killer rock star to be transferred home

French rock star Bertrand Cantat, serving eight years in Lithuania for the manslaughter of his actress girlfriend, is to be transferred to a prison on his homeland.

The lead singer of one of France’s most famous groups Noir Desir (Black Desire), Cantat was convicted in March of the beating death of Marie Trintignant in a hotel room in Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital.

Trintignant, daughter of famed actor Jean-Louis Trintignant, was making a film in Lithuania in July 2003 when the fatal dispute occurred.

France and Lithuania ratified in 1983 a convention on the ”transfer of condemned persons.”

Cantat has informed authorities that he hopes to serve his eight-year term in south-western France, near his family. The French Justice Ministry said that no prison has yet been designated.
