Al-Sadr 'not injured' in Najaf fighting

Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has not been injured in fighting in Najaf, Iraqi officials have said.

Al-Sadr, who has led an uprising against coalition and Iraqi troops for more than a week, was earlier reported to have been hiding, injured, in Najaf’s sacred compound housing the Imam Ali shrine, surrounded by his followers.

It is now understood that the radical cleric has not been hurt, and that negotiations for his exit from the compound are on-going.
