Two Israelis shot in West Bank

A Palestinian gunman shot and wounded two Israelis near the West Bank Jewish settlement of Itamar today, before being killed by security guards, the army and rescue workers said.

A Palestinian gunman shot and wounded two Israelis near the West Bank Jewish settlement of Itamar today, before being killed by security guards, the army and rescue workers said.

The army said the gunman ambushed a car driving near the entrance to the settlement.

One of the wounded, a settlement security guard, was in a serious condition, the second person was slightly wounded, rescue workers said.

Israel Army Radio reported that the gunman tried to flee with the guards rifle, but was shot by other settlement guards.

Palestinian militants have frequently targeted settlers during the last four years of violence.
