The Iraqi national conference, considered a key step in the country’s fledgling steps toward democracy, has been postponed for two weeks in an effort to entice boycotting parties to participate, a conference spokesman said in Baghdad.

The conference had been scheduled to begin on Saturday, but was postponed at the request of the United Nations, according to Abdul Halim al-Ruhaimi, a conference organiser.
