Murder suspect confesses on Indian TV

The main suspect in the rape and murder of a British teenager admitted to the crime today in an Indian television interview.

“I abducted, raped and killed Hannah Foster,” Maninder Pal Singh Kohli told the New Delhi Television network.

Asked why he was confessing, Kohli, who is in police custody, said he was “tired of running”.

“I want to unburden myself,” he said.

Hannah, a 17-year-old student who wanted to become a doctor, was abducted near her home in Portswood, Southampton, in March last year. Her body was found two days later and a post-mortem revealed she had been raped and strangled.

Kohli fled from Britain after police found Hannah’s body.

Police identified Kohli as the main suspect in the case. He was arrested earlier this month in West Bengal state after her parents flew to India to appeal for help in finding Hannah’s killer.

British police have issued an arrest warrant for Kohli, and are expected to seek his extradition from India.
