Munich: Old man shoots five

An old man who was squabbling with a neighbour opened fire on a Munich street today, wounding five people.

The man, in his 70s, barricaded himself in an apartment in the Nymphenburg district after the shooting, police said.

One person was shot in the throat and all injured were taken to hospitals. Police said at least three of the wounded were passers-by.

More than 100 police officers wearing body armour and carrying semiautomatic weapons surrounded the area outside the apartment building, and helicopters whirred overhead.
