Four killed in suicide bomb attack

A suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden car at the gates of a US base in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, killing up to four Iraqi employees and injuring others.

Employees leaving the base at an airport converted into a US military facility, said the bomber drove a car a few yards through the gates of the base.

“We were inside the airport and a grey coloured Opel car entered the airport and exploded a few yards after passing through the gate,” base employee Imad Joseph said.

The car bombing followed mortar attacks on the base, witnesses said, adding that at least five people were injured. It was unclear if there were any US soldiers injured.

Sami Omar, another base employee, said the explosion that killed the bomber also set fire to four other cars near the gate.
