German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer today defended his country’s bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, saying that a new European seat is “priority number one”.

German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer today defended his country’s bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, saying that a new European seat is “priority number one”.

Fischer is fresh from a trip to Asia last week, during which he lobbied for the Security Council to be expanded.
