Bomb kills US soldier in Iraq
A roadside bomb killed one US soldier and injured another while they were escorting a fuel convoy in northern Iraq, the US military said today.
US Army spokesman Master Sergeant Robert Powell said the bomb exploded shortly before midnight on Saturday near the city of Beiji, about 90 miles south of the northern city of Mosul.
The dead soldier soldier was attached to a combat logistics patrol from the US 1st Infantry Division. He sustained serious wounds and died later on Saturday at a military hospital. His identity was not released pending next-of-kin notification.
The wounded soldier is in a stable condition in hospital.
His death raises the toll of US military personnel killed in Iraq to 904 since the war began.
