American turns up in Moscow after kidnap
An American citizen has turned up at a police station in a town outside Moscow, saying that he escaped from captors who abducted him in the capital last month, police said.
The American, who identified himself as a company director, walked into a police station in the town of Pokrov, in the Vladimir region east of Moscow.
He said he had been kidnapped by unknown abductors who beat him and demanded cash, a duty officer at the Interior Ministry’s criminal investigations department said.
The American said he was abducted on June 18 in Moscow and later taken to the Vladimir region, where he escaped. The US Embassy said no American had contacted them about an abduction.
