US Marines killed in western Iraq
Four Marines have died while conducting security operations in Western Iraq, the US command said today.
The Marines were killed yesterday in Anbar, a Sunni-dominated area west of the Iraqi capital that has been a hotbed of anti-coalition resistance. It includes the cities of Fallujah, Ramadi and Qaim on the Syrian border.
They were assigned to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force.
More than 875 US service members have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq.
