Gunman runs amok in Swiss bank

A gunman opened fire in the offices of a bank in Zurich, seriously injuring two people before turning the gun on himself, police said.

The man, a 56-year-old financial adviser, entered the offices of the Zuercher Kantonalbank in central Zurich and fired several times at the financial planning chief and the financial advice chief, police spokesman Marco Cortesi said. The man then shot himself.

The two victims, aged 45 and 41, were seriously injured and were taken to a hospital. The man was declared dead at the scene.

The motive for the incident apparently was a workplace dispute, Cortesi said.

In September 2001, a gun attack sent shock waves through Switzerland. A man with a grudge against officials killed 14 people before shooting himself dead inside the local parliament of Zug, south of Zurich.
