Bloody day in Iraq at 89 dead, 270 injured

Insurgents influenced by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi launched co-ordinated attacks across Sunni Muslim areas of Iraq today, less than a week before the handover of sovereignty.

There were 89 people including three US soldiers killed, and more than 270 people were wounded, Iraqi and US officials said.
