One dead after Bangladesh bomb blast

A bomb blast at an opposition rally in north-eastern Bangladesh today killed one person and wounding at least 60 others, doctors and police said.

Suranjit Sengupta, an MP from the Awami League party, had just finished addressing hundreds of supporters when the bomb exploded near the wooden stage.

He was not injured and blamed his political rivals or those responsible for two recent blasts at a Muslim shrine for today’s blast in Sunamganj, 110 miles north-east of the capital, Dhaka.
