Man dies in parachute accident

A 25-year-old man whose body was found on farmland died in a parachuting accident, police said tonight.

Police and paramedics were called to land near the farm in Co Durham, England at 11.11am after the body was discovered.

A Durham Police spokesman said: “From initial inquiries it appears the deceased had parachuted from an aircraft based at Shotton Airfield.”

He said an investigation had begun involving staff from Durham CID, the Health and Safety Executive, the British Parachuting Association and the Civil Aviation Authority.
