Taoiseach laments death of Reagan

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has conveyed his sorrow to the family of former US President Ronald Reagan, who died last night aged 93.

Mr Ahern also extended his sympathies to the American people. He said Ronald Reagan was proud of his Irish heritage - his great-grandfather was from Ballyporeen in Co Tipperary.

The Taoiseach commended President Reagan's role in the fall of Communism in the Soviet Union saying the accession of 10 new member states to the EU would not have been possible without him.
