Mother accused of starving daughter to death

A mother has been accused of starving her 17-year-old daughter to death after her emaciated body was found in the family’s home in western Austria.

The woman, whose has been charged with murder and neglect, was to undergo a psychological evaluation, police said.

Her daughter’s body was found on her bed at the family home in the city of Linz yesterday. Police said she had been dead for several days, and an autopsy found she had died of multiple organ failure brought on by starvation.

The mother had voluntarily checked herself into a psychiatric hospital in Linz yesterday, and doctors described her as “confused,” officials said.

Police also were questioning the girl’s three brothers, who lived in the house, in an attempt to clarify the circumstances of her death.
