Man charged with stabbing detective

A 48-year-old man was tonight charged with the murder of a British detective who was stabbed to death while making an arrest, police said.

West Midland Police said the suspect had been charged with killing married father-of-one Detective Constable Michael Swindells, aged 44, in Birmingham on Friday.
