US soldier dies in Baghdad attack
A United States soldier assigned to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force was killed today as a result of “enemy action” in central Iraq, the US military said in Baghdad.
The soldier was killed in Anbar province, but there were no other details.
Anbar province is part of the Sunni triangle, a largely Sunni Muslim area that formed a core of support for Saddam Hussein’s former regime. It includes a number of insurgent strongholds such as Ramadi, Fallujah and Qaim.
More than 750 US service members have died since President George W Bush launched the Iraq war in March 2003.
