Gunmen opened fire on a car in the northern oil city of Kirkuk today, killing an Iraqi and a South African and seriously injuring a New Zealander.

Gunmen opened fire on a car in the northern oil city of Kirkuk today, killing an Iraqi and a South African and seriously injuring a New Zealander.

The two foreigners were heading to the centre of the city to shop when their car was attacked, said Major General Anwar Mohammed Amin, head of Iraqi security forces in the city.

The US military had no immediate information on the incident.
