Medical giant to axe jobs

Medical products giant Baxter International is to axe up to 4,000 of its worldwide staff.

The announcement came as the Illinois-based company announced second-quarter earnings.

About half the positions to be eliminated are located outside the US.

Baxter said it also plans to reduce annual plasma production by 400,000 litres and close additional plasma collection centres.
