Women take to two wheels to highlight conflict issue

More than 500 women from 23 countries will cycle across the Middle East to raise awareness for women in conflict situations.

The cycle, organised by “Follow the Women”, will culminate in a two day conference.

Follow the Women has the twin aims of raising solidarity with women (and children) who live in conflict and to raise awareness of the situation of women in a conflict situation.

On April 18, 200 women from 23 countries cycle from Beirut, across Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. 300 more women join ‘Follow The Women’ at the Syrian border.

The final dinner in Amman Citidel will host 23 Ambassadors from the countries of the participating women.

Traffic will come to a halt in Syria, while in Jordan the women will have a police and military escort along the Damascus – Amman highway.

They will sleep in a Bedouin camp on the Jordanian border and visit Sabra and Shatila refugee camps in Lebanon

The youngest woman is an 18 year old Cypriot while the oldest is a 63-year-old Norwegian. Some had never rode a bike before this undertaking.
