Baby born on bus station roof

A Romanian woman gave birth on a roof after doctors were unable to reach her when she went into labour.

Corina Neagu, 20, who lives in a tiny alcove on the roof of a bus station in the central Romanian city of Brasov, was unable to climb down to get medical help due to labour pains.

Unable to climb on to the roof to assist the woman, doctors shouted instructions telling her what to do, said Dr Emilian Matau of the local ambulance service.

A baby boy was born relatively swiftly, said Matau. Firefighters then took the woman down from the roof by raising a stretcher with a crane. The doctors then cut the infant’s umbilical cord.

Neagu had been living on the bus station roof for the past several months.

Hearing that she was about to give birth, dozens of people gathered around the bus station.

“This is was the first time we had such a case,” said Matau by telephone. He said that Neagu and her son were in hospital and doing well.
