The US government today revived the threat of hefty fines and the loss of landing rights for airlines flying across the Atlantic if the EU blocks them from supplying data on passengers .

“We of course will do what we need to do to ensure that flights coming in are properly secured,” said Stewart Verdery, an assistant secretary in the Department of Homeland Security.
