Mother under her own knife for birth

A Mexican woman, in labour and eight hours from a hospital, gave birth to a healthy boy – after performing a Caesarean operation on herself with a kitchen knife.

“She took three small glasses of hard liquor and, using a kitchen knife, sliced her abdomen and delivered a male infant that breathed immediately and cried,” said Dr Robert Valle in San Pablo.
