Sharon justifies his planned retreat

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon presented a sweeping defence of his plan to remove Israeli troops and settlers from the Gaza Strip and parts of the West Bank.

He said he has to fend off increasing international pressure, protect Israel and prevent a Palestinian humanitarian disaster.
