Toddler gets stuck in cat flap

A Welsh toddler got her head stuck trying to climb through a cat flap to follow the family pet into the garden, it emerged today.

Manon Best, two, from Abergavenny, south Wales, had to be freed by firefighters called by her mother, Rachel Best, on Sunday evening.

Station Officer Mark Francis, from South Wales Fire Service, said: “When we turned up at the incident we met a little girl with her head stuck in a cat flap.

“She had been following the cat around the kitchen on all fours and the cat went out the cat flap, so she thought she could do the same. The cat went out and she was like, if the cat can do it, I can do it.”

A spokeswoman for South Wales Fire Service said part-time firefighters from Abergavenny unscrewed part of the cat-flap to free Manon, who was released “totally unscathed”.

Mr Francis added: “Manon was very calm until we started to move the cat flap. She was stuck there for a while and was more upset than anything else.

“This is one of the quirkiest call-outs we’ve been to. Once before we had a child stuck in the legs of a grand piano, but that time the father was more concerned that we didn’t damage the piano.”
