Several suspected Islamic terrorists were arrested in the UK today in a series of dawn raids across the Home Counties, police said.
Scotland Yard said: “At approximately 6am in a pre-planned intelligence-led operation, Met Police officers supported by officers from Thames Valley, Sussex, Surrey and Bedfordshire Police executed search warrants issued under the Terrorism Act 2000 at premises in London and the Home Counties.
“A number of people have been arrested and the operation continues.”
The raids took place in Crawley, West Sussex, close to Gatwick Airport; in Luton, Beds; in Ealing, west London; in Redbridge, east London; and at an undisclosed location in the Thames Valley.
Scotland Yard declined to reveal how many premises had been raided or how many people had been arrested.
The force also refused to comment on reports that bomb making equipment was recovered during the raids.
