Taiwan’s political turmoil showed few signs of abating today as the island’s two major parties disagreed about how to carry out a speedy vote recount of the disputed presidential election.

The parties appeared to make some progress when the opposition Nationalists said that they could consider the ruling party’s proposal to pass a new law that would trigger recounts in tight votes.
