Taiwan President claims narrow election win

Taiwan’s ruling party claimed President Chen Shui-bian won a tight election today, just 24 hours after he survived an assassination attempt.

Shui-bian‘s victory was boosted by a historic referendum about rival China’s military threat that spurred on his supporters but rankled Beijing.
